The first place to look for free and low cost books is the local library. It is amazing what you can find at a library . Some even have a cafe' or a coffee bar . The libraries' services can include : movies , book clubs , children's story hours , computer classes , paintings to check out , music to check out , some have machines that you can check out (for example : video or dvd machines) . Some have community concerts and special guests.
Don't forget Summer book reading clubs that usually have prizes for books read ,as well as one big 'event ' for all involved in the club . The list goes on and on . And everything is usually FREE or it has very low cost participation fees.
Also , check to see if the library has a bookstore for buying used books .Many library support groups sponsor bookstores that offer , in addition to very low priced books , CD's , tapes , music and more.

Visit our Michigan State Library site. It would be an interesting field trip to go there and also check out Lansing at the same time. Parking is .75 an hour on weekdays and free on weekends. Use the 'go with another low income mom' plan and have a day of it !

Following are ways to get free or very low cost books. I am what you might call , a bibliophile. I am addicted to books and reading . No , I will not go to books anonymous because I don't have a problem with books ;< D

BOOK SALES AT LIBRARIES ARE WONDERFUL !
EXAMPLE : THE LOCAL LIBRARY WHERE I GET BOOKS HAS BOOK SALES WHERE YOU GET A BIG GROCERY BAG FULL OF BOOKS FOR $2.00!
FYI : There is a site on the net that sells books from
libraries all across the U.S. The sales price goes towards helping
local libraries and their
'Friends of the Library' organizations. There is a search engine to find your books ,and the prices are usually very reasonable:
*Of course , you can check your library for book sales by asking at the front desk. Sometimes libraries have newsletters that announce sales. Organizations might have book sales to raise funds . Garage sales also have good bargains for used books.
READING
IS
FUNDAMENTAL
It is so important for our kids to read well.
It will help them in all parts of their lives for as long as they live
Reading opens up worlds and adventures that you can take without having to pay a thing (think LIBRARY )
READ FREE BOOKS ON-LINE
There are tons of sites with complete books to read on-line . I personally prefer print books . but these sites are wonderful for reference . They would also come in handy if you had a book report coming up and you couldn't get to a library in time.
This is just a great free service ! It is called Book Mooch . You can trade books with anyone IN THE WORLD ! Go to the site and find out how.
This is a booksale finder . It is a great tool if you use the map to find a sale in your area. Lot's of ads , but you can find out about good booksales around the country .
BOOKSALE FINDER
If you are looking for a particular book , but you don't want to pay full price , here is a place to go . You can look the book up by title and author as well as the ISBN number. It won't be free , but it will be low cost and you will be getting the exact book that you are looking for.
This may not be a way to get free books , but it is a great way to preview books before you invest in them . After you read an excerpt from a book and decide to buy it , you can use the comparison search to get the best deal ( better yet , libraries are still the way to go if you don't want to keep the book ).

Don't judge a book by its cover!
