Being on a low income is hard for humans. For our pets , who count on us so much for care , it can be hard too.  Hopefully , this page will have some sources and ideas so that our pets don't have to suffer or go without in any way. The unconditional love that we get from our pets is priceless and everyone , no matter the income , should be able to have that love and to return it to our furry family members.

There are some that think low income , disabled , elderly  and homeless people shouldn't have pets. They feel the expense isn't justified.

How can you measure the love and comfort that can be had from a  furry friend ?

This site is called  "Feeding the Pets of the Homeless" Please go to their site for assistance and for a donation if you are able. This site is also for veterinarians to find infomation about how to participate . PLEASE CHECK THIS SITE OUT !

FEEDING THE PETS OF THE HOMELESS

 Love is not measured

 by

 how much money a

person has.

My pets have gotten me through many hard times . Pets can cut down on the stress in your life, so that your own health is improved.. Pets are comforting when you are in pain . Pets can be there for you when no one else is. Low income , disabled  and homeless people are often the most lonely . Some pets can provide safety , which is important if you live alone or on the streets.

It is a gift from God

when we have a pet to

 be there for us.

Spaying and Neutering

pets is a good idea no matter what your income is . Some programs provide low cost services ,and a small amount spay or neuter for free. It is to the benefit of your pet as well as to you to  have them spayed or neutered. Pets won't wander away as much and  you won't have to pay for even more pets (puppies/kittens)

Some spay and neuter programs for pet and ferel cats that can probably be used for dogs too if you call ahead.

Financial help for sick and injured pets

If you can't afford vet care these groups my help. Here is a list of organizations that help owners that cannot afford vet care. Most of them handle serious medical conditions and injury. Some focus on low income, elderly and handicapped owners. A couple of them are for rescue organizations and homeless pets.

This link is to a site that is all about cats and dogs and the people who love them . The page that you are going to is their financial assistance page , which in turn has many links to organizations that may be of help.

RESCUING ANIMALS IN NEED

This site lists that they have information for companion animals.

As I read through the things that the site addresses ,  it seems to have tons of information for other types of pets too. There are actually tons of links on this page to try out and research.

 HELP-A-PET

Here is an organization in Otsego , Michigan that deserves the attention of all animal lovers. If I had the money and the land, this is one of the things that I would add to my 'must do' list.If I just had the money and no land , here is one of my top places that I would donate to :

This is a quote from the site. Make sure you go there to find out more information.

"Grateful Acres was established in Otsego, Michigan, for the purpose of providing lifetime care for animals with special needs. A secondary goal is to educate people about vegetarianism and a cruelty-free lifestyle. The sanctuary sits on thirteen acres in rural southwest Michigan, approximately 20 minutes from Kalamazoo. We care for over 100 permanent residents, and numerous other animals that are available for adoption to qualified homes. Our "lifers" include animals who are elderly or handicapped, others who have endured cruelty or neglect, and still others who were victims of factory farming. Grateful Acres is a care for life sanctuary, and is funded solely by tax-deductible donations made by people like you."
